Spanish Simplicity

Happy New Year, everybody! I don't know if it is because of the constant clamor of a two and a four year old, or simply because the calendar has turned the page, but recently I have been craving calm and simple environments.   I yearn for open doors, a casual breeze blowing the scent of lilac through the house,  and an easy linen dress and straw hat.

Spanish homes did not immediately charm me upon our arrival in California.  But over the past few years they have been quietly seducing me, causing me to slowly, then all at once, yearn for one myself.  There's something both stark and romantic about the contrast between pure white stucco walls and Terracotta roofs.  It is all about sculpted lines and wonderful attention to detail.

I captured these images during our New Year's stay at the Ojai Valley Inn.  If you have not had the chance to experience it, I highly recommend putting it on your wish list!
